Everyday Love

Being deeply loved by someone gives you strength, while loving someone deeply gives you courage -Lao Tzu.
My 15 year-old self would cringe at me admitting it, but I love Valentine’s Day, exactly because it is about love. I’ve had my fair share of disappointing ones—who thought it was a good idea to have the “brother” boys’ school buy specific girls at their corresponding “sister” school flowers and deliver them to homeroom on Valentine’s Day?
But, every year of my life I’ve received a Valentine from my parents. This morning my son woke up early, ran into my room, gave me a hug and said Happy Valentine’s Day Mommy! Even better, when I asked him if they were exchanging valentines at school earlier this week, he said, “I don’t know, but I want to give my friends valentines even if we aren’t.” Love.
And then I see things like the quote above that my friend Lisa posted to her husband. And my own husband, coming home from work early today to practice partner yoga, which he will teach with me tonight, and in even less of a grand gesture, doing all the little things of everyday love to make my dream possible.
I’ve never gotten a pink carnation. But I am lucky to be so deeply loved and everyday I want to share that love to give you courage.
