Thoughtful, tested approaches to make your Yoga Teacher Training experience exceptional.

Approach.

Since our first training in 2019, our program has evolved a great deal. We’ve moved away from the general model of Yoga Teacher Trainings—10 hour days full of lectures in a large group.

The problem with this approach is that they are designed for convenience and not for learning.

No other field provides trainings like this. It’s simply not a good way to learn. The longest students can pay attention is in 20 minute chunks and if knowledge isn’t played with, we lose it.

In a 10 hour training day, students typically lose up to 80% of it.

So, why not make yoga teacher training like every other educational experience using our knowledge of how people learn.

Here’s what we do at Shine to help you learn:

  1. Understand and integrate different learning styles.

  2. Shorten training periods, and apply all information to the teaching of yoga.

  3. Encourage critical thinking, questions, and discussion

  4. Use online tools including live streamed and prerecorded content so that students can watch lectures in their own time and rewatch content.

  5. Make the online content available forever so graduates can review.

  6. Break the larger group into two learning communities, allowing for more one on one attention and deeper connections among students, while also allowing for the physical and temperamental variety of the larger group.

  7. Prioritizing kindness and vulnerability as essential characteristics of yoga teachers.

The bottom line is that we believe in our training and want to do everything we can to help you learn and apply what we teach you.

Shine is well known for our research backed approach to teaching alignment-based yoga and approaches to rest equally rooted in yoga traditions and neuroscience.

Our approach to our training is the same. We use pedagogical research to ensure that the complexity of being a yoga teacher is presented in a way that sticks.

Structure.

But convenience is a real thing too. We want you to learn when you don’t have distractions and the time of day you learn best.

We want you to benefit from both a large learning community and a small support group.

We want you to have one-on-one attention and the opportunity to work with lots of bodies and viewpoints.

We’ve structured the program so that you can have the best of both worlds.

  1. Larger Group Community

  2. Small Group Application

  3. Monthly One-on-one Mentorship with Sara

  4. Online community to support deeper exploration of home practice and experience.
