FAQs

A few important things to know…

Please don’t let these intimidate you! We are here to help if you have any trouble and these policies are only in place to make your experience exceptional.

We give you a three-minute grace period after the start time of each class in case you are running late.

We lock the door at 3 minutes after the class start time and won’t let anyone in.

We’ve had this protocol in place for the past eleven years and it’s a really important one.

Are we just mean or super strict?

No. We totally understand that things happen. You won’t be charged for the class if you just miss the grace period and are locked out (if you are 10 minutes late that’s a different story and you will be charged the no show rate).

The reason we have this policy in place is that we are creating a sanctuary for people in our classes. We start off every class helping students get their minds off all the stuff of their world. People who are late are typically super stressed, and that affects the whole class.

For the same reason, please don’t pound on the door if you are locked out and ideally give yourself at least 10 minutes before class to settle in.

What happens if I need to cancel a class?

Please make every effort to cancel a class you can't make it to as soon as you know you can't. As an intimate studio with just 11 spots, every space is precious, and there's often someone on the waitlist hoping to practice!

Our 90-minute cancellation policy: You can cancel up to 90 minutes before class starts without penalty. For example, if a class starts at 10:30 AM, you can cancel until 9:00 AM without any charges.

  • If you have a membership with a specific number of classes each month, a class package, or a single class: Canceling 90 minutes or more before class means you keep your class credit! If you cancel less than 90 minutes before class or don't show up, you'll lose that class.

  • If you have an Unlimited membership or are on an Intro Special: Cancelling 90 minutes or more before class means no charges! Late cancellations (less than 90 minutes) or no-shows will incur a $15 charge.

  • What happens if Shine has to cancel a class?

Sometimes we need to cancel a class due to low attendance or teacher illness—we try to avoid this whenever possible, but it does happen occasionally.

It is our hope that we provide enough classes throughout the month for you to make up any class that's been cancelled. However, we know that's not always possible with busy schedules. In the interest of fairness, if you were registered for a class that we cancelled and you weren't able to use that class credit by the end of your billing period, we will carry it over into the next month.

This way, you'll never lose a class due to our cancellation, and you'll have extra time to find a class that works for your schedule.

We require that students pay and sign up for classes online rather than dropping in.

If you have trouble doing this, Sara can register you and help you purchase a package.

This is new for us.‍ ‍There are three reasons we are doing this.

First, space is much more limited than in our previous studio, so by registering, you get a guaranteed spot. There is a risk if you don’t register ahead of time that you won’t be able to take class.

Second, we set up mats and props for classes and customize our classes for who is in the class. We never just wing it. When we plan a class, it’s helpful to know if we need to think about modifications for someone recovering from surgery, or maybe we planned a shoulder opening class and see on the roster that a student who is working on getting into wheel is in the class. We can add in techniques to support that student while still serving the broader class.

Third, we want our teachers to just focus on teaching, and we want them to be able to center before class, so you can be centered and grounded too. When they have to deal with computers and packages and payments, it is easy to become frazzled and distracted.

Please note that the cut off time to sign up for a class is 30 minutes before the start of class.

Travel light. We don’t want you to bring any yoga gear, mats, props, etc with you.

If you’ve ever been to a retreat center, you know that the room is always set up for students when they enter. We want every class to be a retreat from the stresses of your world. We want you to feel cared for, and we want you to use the highest quality mat and props that are available. It really does make a difference.

We disinfect everything, but if you want to bring a pillowcase for a bolster and a yoga mat towel for on top of the mat, you are welcome to.

Join the waitlist if a class you wish to take is full.

How does the waitlist work?

Our classes are small and personal (just 11 spots!), which means we often have a waitlist. The waitlist is very fluid because students sign up way ahead of time. The first 2 to 3 people on our waitlist get into the class 95% of the time.

Here's how it works: If a class you wish to take is full, click the Join Waitlist button! If a spot opens up, you'll be notified by text & email. Important: You now have 10 minutes to claim your spot by confirming you can attend. If you don't confirm within 10 minutes, the spot will automatically go to the next person on the waitlist.

This new confirmation step ensures you won't be accidentally charged for a class if you're on multiple waitlists or your plans have changed since you joined the list. The waitlist closes 30 minutes before class starts, since that's too short notice for most people to make it to an unplanned class.

If you miss the window, text us, and we'll see if we can add you in!
