Take the first step

From Frozen Shoulder to Healing Others: Lisa's Story

Lisa came to Shine after six months of physical therapy for a frozen shoulder, which wasn't giving her the results she needed. "I was in so much pain and my PT said yoga might help, but I was terrified of making it worse."

Lisa’s first class was Resilience with Sara. "The class was so different. The surprise was that I didn’t need modifications, because every yoga posture we did was focused on waking up muscles in my body. I felt my shoulder girdle working together for the first time, and for the first time, I felt hopeful. "

Lisa started with three classes each week and added monthly private sessions. "The private sessions were game-changing. Sara would assess my range of motion, explain what was limiting me anatomically, and give me specific homework. It wasn't just stretching—it was retraining my nervous system to trust and fire the muscles of my shoulder again. Sara explained that muscles stop working and other muscles take over, but we can remind those muscles of their role. It blew my mind. "

Six months later, Lisa’s shoulder had full range of motion. But something else had shifted. "I realized that yoga is truly a unique healing system because it uses the whole body rather than isolating the one injured part. That’s what makes it different from everything else I tried. I realized I needed to share what had healed me."

When Shine announced the next Teacher Training, Lisa applied. "I never thought I'd be a yoga teacher, but I wanted to understand this work deeply enough to help other people the way Sara helped me. I wanted to be able to say 'here's what's happening in your rotator cuff,' not just 'breathe and let it go.'"

After graduating, Lisa realized she didn’t want to teach classes, she wanted to do private sessions. She dove right into Module 1 of the Advanced Yoga Teacher Training and now offers private sessions on Saturdays and one evening a week. "I teach people with injuries because I was one of them. I know what it's like to be scared of your own body. And I know how powerful it is when someone can explain the 'why' behind what you're doing."

Lisa's path: Drop-in classes → Private sessions → Teacher Training → Advanced Yoga Teacher training on anatomy and application →Offering private sessions

“It all begins with an idea. Maybe you want to launch a business. Maybe you want to turn a hobby into something more. Or maybe you have a creative project to share with the world. Whatever it is, the way you tell your story online can make all the difference.”
